Thanet Wanderers 2nd XV vs. Edenbridge – A Hard-Fought Draw

On a crisp, blue-skied Sunday, Thanet Wanderers 2nd XV travelled to Edenbridge for an Inner Warrior game, joined by players from Medway and Sevenoaks to form a determined squad. Led by Coach Patrick Liddle and Captain Emily Williams, the team took to the field with a clear focus: play for each other and keep the communication strong.

First Half

Thanet started on the defensive, holding Edenbridge at bay with solid tackling and pressure. Despite strong defensive efforts from the likes of Tabs Raymonde, Helen Hollinsworth, and Kat Stuart, Edenbridge managed to break through with a penalty try and two further converted tries, taking a 19-0 lead into halftime. Thanet dominated the scrums early on, but a change to uncontested scrums in the second half altered the dynamics.

Second Half – The Comeback Begins

Determined to turn things around, Thanet came out firing. A stunning solo effort from Tabs Raymonde, sprinting down the wing while shrugging off three tacklers, got Thanet on the scoreboard (19-5). Thanet continued to press, and after a sustained attack, Captain Emily Williams crashed over in the corner for her first-ever try to bring it to 19-10.

With momentum on Thanet’s side, Tabs Raymonde chased her own perfectly weighted kick, collecting it and racing in for another try, with Chloe Siddall adding the conversion (19-17). Thanet weren’t done yet—an incredible team effort saw the ball move through the hands, allowing Chloe Siddall to score in the corner and convert, putting Thanet ahead 24-19 with just minutes to play.

A Dramatic Finish

Edenbridge threw everything into a final attack. Thanet’s defence stood strong with relentless tackling, holding them up over the line at one stage. However, after repeated penalties and sustained pressure, Edenbridge finally found a gap to score, levelling the game at 24-24. The conversion was missed, and the final whistle blew on a thrilling contest.

A fantastic display of resilience, teamwork, and heart from Thanet, coming back from 19-0 down to lead in the dying moments. A hard-earned draw, but a performance to be proud of!
