Thanet Wanderers Colts 19 vs Medway Colts 10
A beautiful day for rugby at St. Peter's Recreational Ground, as the Thanet Wanderers hosted the Medway Colts for an eagerly anticipated league game. Both teams were well-matched, and expectations were high for an exciting competitive contest.
The game began with both teams showing their skill and determination. Both sides exchanged hard runs and solid control of the ball, with the majority of play happening in the Thanet half. The first real break came when Charlie Bailey made a strong break from the base of a scrum, passing to Tom. Unfortunately, the final pass was deliberately knocked down by a Medway player, with the referee missing the knock-on, and the chance went begging. The Thanet winger clearly with an unopposed route to the posts.
The deadlock was finally broken towards the end of the first half. Medway capitalized on a quick turnover, and the fly-half executed a clever kick across the field. The ball bounced perfectly into the hands of the winger, who touched down for the try. The conversion was missed, leaving the score at 5-0 to Medway.
Thanet responded well, keeping the pressure on Medway. A series of strong attacks eventually led to a brilliant set-piece move, with Harrison Taylor picking the ball from the base and diving over for a well-worked try. The conversion attempt was unsuccessful, leaving the score level at 5-5.
Medway quickly regained the lead with a well-timed break, and the hooker powered through at the ruck to score as the Thanet guards had gone AWOL. A missed conversion left the score at 10-5 and all to play for. Thanet, however, continued to apply pressure, and great work from Carl Gordan-Durrant and Charlie Bailey helped to drive Medway back. Ellis Plumridge, known for his poaching skills, secured the ball and dived over the line for the Try. Tom Gough securing the successful conversion, giving Thanet the lead at 12-10.
The final stages of the match saw Thanet hold strong, with Owen making a brilliant break to dive over the line and seal the victory. Tom Gough, despite not having his favorite tee for the kick, calmly dropped goaled the conversion to ensure a 19-10 win for Thanet.
It was a fantastic game of rugby, with both teams putting in a great effort. The whole team played well however the standout player of the match was Charlie Bailey for his excellent pickups and powerful forward drives, playing a key role in Thanet's victory.
