Thanet Wanderers Colts vs. Deal Wanderers Colts – Friendly
On Mother's Day, Thanet Wanderers played a friendly home game against a strong Deal side at Saint Peter’s Recreational Ground. Both teams were eager to put on a good contest, and the match proved to be an exciting one.
The match started strongly for both teams, but Deal claimed the first points after some sustained pressure. Thanet was penalized for not releasing the ball, giving Deal an easy shot in front of the posts. The kick was successful, and Deal took the lead at 3-0.
Thanet responded well, playing themselves into the Deal half right from the kickoff. After a series of strong attacks, the ball was moved nicely through the hands, with Tom Gough bringing it closer to the line. Harrison Taylor then picked up the ball and finished off the move to score, putting Thanet ahead 7-3 after the successful conversion by James Murdock.
Thanet began to take control of the game, with some excellent play and breaks. A brilliant run from Ellis Plumridge at No. 8 saw him break through the Deal line. He passed the ball to James Murdock, who sprinted down the wing and scored in the corner. Thanet extending their lead to 12-3.
However, Deal weren’t backing down. The visitors showed great tenacity in their tackling and jackling, continued to pressure Thanet, capitalizing on mistakes and turnovers. They managed to score a try on the break, closing the gap to 12-10.
In the second half, Deal then stunned Thanet by taking the lead. A slick dummy from Deal’s number 9 saw him send the Thanet defense the wrong way, and he walked in to touch down under the posts to put his side ahead 12-17.
At this point, it seemed like it might be one of those days for Thanet, where nothing was going right. But the home side showed great grit and determination. Strong forward runs from Carl Gordan-Bennet, Harrison Taylor, and the powerful Fin created space for Alex, who cut back against the grain to score, tying the game at 17-17.
With just five minutes remaining, the game was anyone’s for the taking. Thanet, putting immense pressure on Deal, took the game to the visitors' line. Freddie Durrant, who had a great performance throughout the match, with some smashing tackles made a wonderful break. He got close to the line before offloading the ball to Charlie Page, who sidestepped his way under the posts to score the decisive try. Thanet regained the lead at 24-17.
The last few minutes were tense as Deal tried to mount a comeback, but Thanet's defense held strong. Despite some nervous moments, the Wanderers secured the victory.

It was a well-fought contest, with both teams showing plenty of heart and skill. Thanet’s resilience and determination in the final stages secured the win in an exciting friendly encounter.
